he did it himself.... haven't you seen the Red Dwarf episode where they travel thru time and bump Lee Harvey Oswald right at the critical moment and then they go back and forth in time to get to JFK a few years into the future when he is being transported to prison for crimes and he the JFK from 1967 goes back with the Red Dwarf boys and he shoots his younger self to put history right again....
so the answer to your question is JFK('67) is the man on the grassy knoll, he shot himself to avoid prison.... go watch the show. Its the best handling of the conspiracy theory yet.

I was in school when I heard. I think I was 10. They said it was Lee Harvey Oswald and that he shot from a nearby building. There was also a lot of talk about shots coming from a grassy knoll and a possible conspiracy. We may never know the truth.
