No, it is definitely not. Are you experiencing any decrease in muscle strength on the leg? Tingling, numbness and lost of muscle strength are indicative of a neurological problem. You should have had a follow-up visit after the surgery. Contact your surgeon and schedule an appointment with him or her. At the very least, see a neurologist. Depending on your health insurance, you might need to see your primary care to get a referral.

I had a discetomy in June of 2003 and I still have pain in both legs all the way to my toes. The left side of my leg and butt cheek is still numb to touch. My surgeon said that he is not sure if that feeling will ever come back. I regret surgery was worse after than before. Try to talk to your surgeon and see what they think. Not heard of many people that get what they are promised with back surgery. Understand Sweetie, God Bless

I also bet your next step will be epidural injections, they don't work either.

I don't know from personal experience, but a lady I used to work with had back surgery around Feb. I think, and she still has no feeling in her leg. Rare, but it can deffinatly happen. I'd check w/your doc to make sure everything is healing correctly.

I'm assuming it was lumbar surgery? A friend of mine has had three surgeries in a year, and the numbness has not completely gone away.
