I used to have terrible pains as well.
There are a few things you can do for this, one is to soak in a nice warm tub (a jacuzzi hot tub would be best if you have access to one). The hot water relaxes the body and opens up the vessels allowing better blood flow. A lot of times where there is pain it can be due to lack of good blood flow.
Another thing I use it to eat tofu about ever other day. For some odd reason it eases up my cycle. Usually mine is very heavy, but if I have just a little soy it quickly eases up. Soy has natural plant estrogen so I'm guessing that's why it helps me.
Also, talk to your dr. about the pain. A GYN would be best. Sometimes there are other underlying causes of pain during the cycle and a good check up would be best to rule that out.
As for the other stuff, I think it's an old wives tale also.

The things that your mom is telling you are just myth. You probably have an ovarian cyst or endometriosis - or like millions of other women - you just have painful periods. Get some Midol for when you are on your period. This is a safe, over-the-counter medication that does not have lasting side effects! I"m old, I've had four kids and I still have painful periods - I'm one of the millions that are cursed with this. Research says that the pain eases some after childbirth - I have found that to be true. Good Luck to you!

I think that the idea that foods worsen cramps is a bit of a myth. I've had really bad cramps throughout my life as well. When I get bad cramps, at least when I'm away from home, I either hunch over to put pressure on that area or stretch out the area. When you're at home; get a good heating pad and take a nap. My cramps were so bad, I had to get a prescription from my doctor. The medicine I take causes no noticeable side effects.

Perhaps you should go to a doctor, and see if there is cyst in your womb? I don't know for sure, I just heard that normally, a menstruation might give us a bit pain, but if the pain is hurt too much, might be something wrong with your system.
I tried to have regular exercise during a month, and eat enough healthy food, enough protein, enough vitamins and so on. It makes me feel okay when I have my period...not feel pain at all.
Perhaps you should try, but if the pain insist, when you get next period, you might go to a doctor.
Maybe you want to try chinese medicine also? My auntie got same syndroms as you, when she was younger, after months of chinese medicine, she got better.
I hope this helps.

Water and exercise are the best ways to naturally ease the discomfort. I know it's probably the last thing you want to do, but try going for a light run. Drink lots of water. God Bless
You could use Midol too, it's an over the counter medication for menstral cramps and it's safe. You could go on the birth control pill as well. It will lessen the cramps. I was on it for a couple years, and when I went off the cramps never returned. My periods are completely painless now.

I have this problem ever since i start having mensus.
I went to doctor almost every month last time to consult on this problem, but the same thing they will tell me is avoid cold drinks. and i think it helps, right now, the number of times i'm having cramps lessen.
its no good to take on the pills, because they are pain killers, and will have side effects next time. Right now, i've taken so much pain killers, that they no longer works on me.
The next time u have the cramps, try putting hot water bottle and row it over your stomach. It helps sooth the pain. and avoid cold drinks a few days before your mensus and on the days of your mensus to prevent heavy flow.
Lastly, the doctor told me that, after you give birth, the problem will no longer be there.. which is true, because i have a few relatives who suffered the same problem last time, after they give birth, the pain doesn't come anymore..

I understand that taking birth control can help regulate your period. I too have a heavy flow and bad cramps some things I've found that help are light excercise, avoiding caffeine, placing a warm towel across the belly or a heating pad. Your doctor can suggest more solutions. You can also take a midol if it gets too bad. Good luck dear. This is just one of the downsides of being a woman. (but there are up sides)

I don't think foods affect ur period, but I'd recommend drinking plenty of water. Flushing ur system w/ water will help ease the cramps. As for the medicine, have u tried Midol? I heard that helps a lot too. Sorry u have 2 deal w/ the pain. Feel better!

That stuff your mom forbids you to eat is an old wives tale. Nothing you eat is going to make it worse or better. If you are suffering then ask your mom to take you to a gyn so you can get looked at and get some meds to help with your pain. Good luck.

I had bad cramps too, you could try some herbal remedies, has helped me alot. Black Cohosh can lessen the pain some and some chinese combinations. Check out a good health food store and ask questions. Some OTC stuff works well, and go to the doc to ck yourself out if it is that serious.
