Yes most companies do. It is only legal if you sign the statement giving them authorization to do so. It may be stated on the application or on a seperate sheet of paper. In order to get the job or be considered then you will have to sign the authorization.

I guess. The last job I got, they said they were going to check my credit and check if I had a criminal record. My credit sucks, and I WAS arrested on a minor charge last year - but it was still "criminal."
But the company cleared me. That means either they didn't REALLY check, or standards for employment are REALLY low these days...

it depends on the job some jobs do credit checks but not all do like finance companies and law enforcement and any kind of goverment jobs do but most don't but it is legal they have u sign a relese of information sheet for the background and criminal check some include credit in that to

Some business's do..Like some Government jobs or jobs with a finanicial institute (not all). And it is legal, because they want to be sure who they are hiring, so they do a background and credit hek, so there is no liability..

If you fill out and sign an employment application you are telling them they have your permission to prove that what you say is so - hence you give them the go ahead to do it

Yes and yes....If you have some really bad info on your report just be honest with them and you probably can get by with an explanation. Divorce, laid-off, bad business etc.
