If it's more than a couple or three months out of date, then you need to throw them away. Some medications/vitamins just lose their potency (strength) after they expire, while others can actually become dangerous.
You should probably take this opportunity to purge your medicine cabinet and discard all of the expired stuff in there.

Probably safe (although I can't guarantee it,) but the effectiveness of the nutrient is likely deteriorated. It is just SILLY to take old Vitamin C. It is one of the cheapest vitamins you can get. Go to Wal-Mart's vitamin section, they have their Spring Valley brand, 500 mg, 250 count. Last I bought it was $3.47 a bottle. They often run a special deal on this size where they add 50 extra for the same price. This is almost like getting it for free--slightly more than one cent per tablet. Their quality is first rate. I recommend their Omega-3 Fish Oil also, it also is rated "excellent."
Going to the Health Food Store for your vitamins is OK if that is what you want but they vitamins are not any better just because they charge you 2-3 times as much for the same thing.
I also recommend you check out Doctor's Trust Vitamins on-line. Great prices and quality also. Purity Products has some things that you may not find anywhere else also.
For a super source of nutritional health information check out the link below. Especially be sure to read all the information he has on Vitamin C. It is better for you than you probably think.

Probably...as the "Drug Companies" that make Vitamins and Prescription Drugs are in it for the money & want you to buy more ASAP. That's why pharmacies put an expiration date of 1 year from the date you received your script. But...to be on the safe side you should probably not take them & buy some more. Always check the dates.

Same as what it says about all cats -- from domestic moggies to lions and tigers and everything inbetween -- can't synthesise taurine (which is not found in any plant source). If you feed a cat a vegetarian diet (and prevent it from supplementing it of its own accord), it will slowly go blind and die in screaming agony. If we were descended from ancestors that ate a diet rich in vitamin C, then the loss of the ability to synthesise it would not necessarily be fatal. Interestingly, there is at least anecdotal evidence of reduced ability to synthesise taurine in some humans; some members of groups living together and eating the same vegetarian diet have shown symptoms consistent with taurine deficiency.
