550 Permission denied error?

trying to access files on my FTP server from remote location and I keep getting a 550 Permission denied error no matter which file I try to access. I can "see" the files but cannot open anything, just gives my permission denied error

The files that you're trying to access aren't able to be accessed by the username that you used to connect via FTP. Put both the file owner and your FTP user in the same group and grant that group permission to view the FTP files. Then it'll work. Or log in via FTP using the username corresponding to the owner of the files you're trying to access.
