I've been housesitting for my parents, taking care of their house and their pets as well as my own house and pets.
My house is small, with a small yard, so I don't normally bother with watering my lawn (I figure, the dead-er it is, the less it needs to be cut). Their yard and front lawn is big.
San Antonio had been under water restrictions, so the folks in my parents' neighborhood could only water their lawns on Fridays, I think. My parents have one of those underground sprinkler systems (and I'm not entirely sure how to turn it on).

So, I've been busy getting ready to start teaching again, and I FORGOT to water the lawn AT ALL!!! SO, today, I noticed the lawn is a bit brown and crunchy.... My question:
Is it too late? Have I killed it? If I water it this coming Friday, and let get really, really, REALLY soaked, is there any possibility of reviving it????
Please, some gardening expert, give me some good advice to save the lawn.
Or else, just give me the bad news gently.

Oh, you are all so awesome!! Thank you for your great advice and encouraging words. All of you! Except the guy who suggested a match. :-) I have to go finish working on lesson plans, but I can rest my mind a little, knowing the roots are alive, the grass is dormant, and it is within the realm of possibility that the lawn is not utterly dead.
I'm going to keep the question open for next couple of days, and glean all the gardening wisdom I possibly can. Thanks again!!!

If the lawn is well established, browning will not harm the grass even if it stays brown for a bit. Browning is nature's way of going dormant. You have not killed the lawn although your folks may want to kill you. Good luck!

actually it isnt too late to save, the one said water at least a few is right and also there are things you can buy to spray like a mericle grow for grass in stead of plants, it does take awhile to get it back to normal but everythin is , dont worry too much, what doesnt come back all the way will next yr. and the rainy season is gonna start soon so not bad timing ,

Water it now if you didn't water it last Friday. They don't have the water police out at night do they? Then do it again Friday.Your parents have to know that if you water only once a week, it's gonna get brown anyway.Don't sweat the small stuff. One thing about parents, they're always forgiving.....

When my Dad had just put in a new lawn and the city throw up a sprinkling nabd because we lacked rain, he would get in like 2AM and sprinkle when the whole neighborhood was asleep. Sprinkle ASAP and do it long enough the lawn gets a good soaking.

i became in petco the different day and all of their "tanks" designed only for bettas are thoroughly incorrect. They promote those tiny "betta bowls" and those fashion designer tanks that do not actually have a lid. they actually have this aspect the position you may make all of it fairly with rocks and lights and in the right you would possibly want to easily rigidity your betta out and kill it. No ask your self absolutely everyone is so stupid. at the same time as they see those betta products they'll imagine "oh, this became made for a betta, it should be the superb aspect" yet its no longer. It sickens me to imagine of the countless bettas that leap from their fashion designer tanks and die or are left in tiny little bowls. human beings, for the most section, purchase bettas because they're fairly. even with the undeniable fact that unhappy, unhappy, chilly bettas are literally not fairly. If a betta is in a tremendous warmth tank his colorings will be 1000 situations prettier and he will be a lot more desirable energetic and wonderful to observe.

It will take a few weeks. It need about 1" of water per week. If it is just a little brown the roots still live.

It depends on what kind of grass it is. When in doubt, water.
