The best I've seen has got to be "Shawshank Redemption." It is a very powerful movie about friendship, race and class. It's a beautifully made movie with great acting.

Lord of the Rings extended version trilogy. That will keep you occupied for a good 10+ hours! lol
The Matrix is fantastic, great special effects and the scene in the lobby is incredible.
ET - I actually sobbed and had to watch it 2 more times just to see the whole thing.
Pirates of the Caribbean - JD should have won an Academy for that :-( I recommended this one to someone recently and she loved it.
Cool Runnings - hilarious and inspiring.

One of my favorite movies is Elizabethtown, with Kirsten Dunst and Orlando Bloom. It's sort of beautiful the way Kirsten Dunst acts in this movie, it's got the song "Freebird" in it (nothing wrong with that), it's a corny love story, and Paula Deen (the greatest cook on the Food Network) is in it.

I could never chose. I"m a movie fanatic, hoping to act professionally, myself. There are so many favorites of mine that cannot top each other, mostly because they're in different subject areas. So, basically, I can't choose. ha ha. :)
