I am of the opinion that yes - a man and woman can be just friends - but how close of friends they should be is another matter. If someone is in a committed relationship, I believe they should never be too close with someone of the opposite sex. There will develop or already is an attachment on an emotional level, which could easily turn physical in a time of need.

ABSOLUTELY NOT IF THERE IS AN ATTRACTION.
I think it is an insult when a woman wants to be just friends with a man. It degrades a man. Men are supposed to be strong and healthy and reproductive. I think it is best for a man to have male friends and woman to have female friends.
If i wanted a friend the last thing I would do is seek out a woman.

Of course men and women can be friends. But make sure there no attraction on either side , and i dont mean that u think he or she is cute because they may be n itz okay 2 find reconginze sumbodi as attractive but feelins greater than that will ruin a friendship. Make sure your friendship is built truly on wanting to become compainons who confide in each otha because if not eventullay the true reason why u become friends will come up n may ruin your friendship

If one is attracted to the other, NO, they can't be JUST friends. The one with feelings for the other will start to look at the other as a potential mate, and start treating that person as one. Guys usually don't want to be close friends with a girl, unless they are attracted to her or want to be with her (in one way or another). Women usually like it when their "guy friends" dote on them, kiss their ***. and they have them wrapped around their finger. If one of them is in a relationship this usually causes major problems, because of jealousy. If they're both single, I guess it really doesn't matter, it's up to them.

You can be friends, but when the majority of your friends are of the opposite sex, it doesn't look good. Either you look quite strange, or gay. I think it is especially hard if you are the g/f and your b/f has a few too many female friends...there's something to be said for keeping up appearances. And when people see a guy with a girl out to dinner..etc, what does it look like to you??? it generally looks like they are on a date or something.
Sorry, not trying to sound untrusting...

he is a wonderful man and his (now) wife and are growing into best friends as well.

Yes, definitely. But, I think that only truly works if you are comfortable in knowing that the other person does not have any feelings for you. I have A LOT more male friends that female friends. But, that is partly because of the line of work I'm in (radio). Plus, I kinda like guy friends a little more because women tend to feel threatened by other women, like they have to compete.

Of course a man and a woman can be just friends. Just because a man knows a woman, doesnt mean he wants to be more than friends. Sure there may be physical attraction between any straight man and woman, but that doenst mean there are romantic feelings.
Some younger people may think its immposible, and maybe at younger ages when hormones are raging, it is much harder, but not immposible. then as you mature, of course its possible. some of my best friends are female and i dont have anything but platonic love for them.
