Can it also cause hot flashes?

Yes. A failing thyroid will cause less secretion of thyroid hormone which plays an important role in metabolism. When it isn't secreted properly your metabolism decreases and throws other hormones out of balance and yes, this can cause hot flashes.

The thyroid is one of the glands that are responsible for hormone production- so it could definitely give you a hormonal imbalance- I'm not sure it could cause hot flashes or not.

yes and there is nothing good to say about a under active thyroid. i have that problem. it has caused me major changes. depression, adrenal fatigue, irregular periods, weight gain, mood swings, hormonal imbalance, ageing, water retention, high cortisol...... i could go on forever. the medication given called Synthroid is a problem for weight gain and water retention. it does help balance out your hormones. get checked on a regular basis or u will regret the outcomes.

It can definitely cause hormonal changes, mess with your metabolism, cause fatigue & hair loss and more. You may want to see an endocrinologist.
