It's one I've never seen for rental--The Town That Dreaded Sundown. It played in the early 1970s. One scene had the killer tie a young couple to a tree. Then he attached a large knife to the slide of a trombone. He stood in front of the girl and proceeded to play the instrument and each time he did the knife went into her. He did it over and over.

Another scary scene showed a young couple kissing in a car on a deserted lane late at night. The girl thought she heard something, but they didn't see anything. They started to leave and suddenly he slid down from the car roof where he'd been hiding and faced them through the windshield. They didn't live either.

Check out the 1963 film "The Haunting." (IMDB link below) It's based on Shirley Jackson's "The Haunting of Hill House," and it is flat out the most terrifying movie I've ever hid behind a chair from.

The cast is dialed in, the acting absorbing and quirky, the story actually believable. It was shot in black & white, which is probably why it's not as well known as it might otherwise have been, but the terror, when it strikes, will result in fingernail marks on your upholstery.

Enjoy!

The asian movie of 'audition' and the movie 'house of wax' the first is pretty scary, but sort of slow for awhile, then second one isn't as scary as it is creepy, and sometimes depressing in some parts.
