Nope...just a bad roof job...if you have a chimney...they can get into the crawl space between the roof and chimney... my parents had over 80 that flew out of their chimney/crawl space at night in the spring..they eat little bugs... living in a house that's over 200 yrs old...that'll happen..

Since most people have a bat phobia, it's probably a bad omen for the bats. Contrary to what most people believe, bats don't have a higher incidence of rabies than any other wild species, and most of them are herbivorous or insectivorous, preferring fruit or mosquitoes.
To the best of my knowledge, there are only two or three species of "vampire" bats, and I think most of them are in South America. They tend to attack cows, not humans.
But if the thought of having bats in your belfry bothers you, then call a local wild animal rescue/rehabiliation group for help. There are also bat rescue organizations in some parts of the country: check online to see if one is near you.

In China, bats are considered lucky; in fact the word for luck is the same as the word for bat!

"In" the house???? OMG. They're dirty creatures. Its not bad luck or bad omen, Its bad housekeeping to have them "in" the house. But as a bad omen - depends in what country you live in. Most asian countries find it bad luck to have bats anywhere near their homes, altho in some other countries, its a good thing to have because bats eat small creatures like mice, insects, roaches, etc.

No, they are animals looking for a quiet place to sleep during the day. They are good to have around as they eat insects. Just make sure their poop is not getting all over the place as that can be unhealthy if not cleaned up.

Bats could be rabid. We had one in our backyard once and our dogs killed it.The dogs had to be quarantined for a week and the bat had to be tested by the board of health. It was involved and it was a big deal.So be very careful, because they could be carrying diseases.
