can a 1971 14 hp BS engine w/front and rear pto that runs driveshaft be used to build a log splitter?

a log splitter is usually a simple hydraulic pump driving a platform toward a wedge. You will need a lot more than a PTO, but that could be a start.

sure, just use care when connecting it to a hydraulic pump... beyond that, that engine should work fine.
I'm assuming its a horizontal shaft.
