Think about it. You see and hear about it all of the time. It is purely unacceptable to bring a child into this world when you can't even afford the children you have let alone the monthly rent. First of all, The child is neglected of basic quality of life needs such as adequate housing, food, and other necessities. Secondly, and even more disturbing is that our hard working tax dollars are going to the welfare system which many people seem to abuse and continue to make poor decisions such as having more children they can't afford. It is a gross act of social and humane irresponsibility-a total disrespect to children if one can not provide financial stability for them. Strange but true, underprivelaged families have more children than middle and upper class families. Something is not right here. It just doesn't seem logical. Does anybody have an educated answer to this?

I grew up very poor and can honestly say, yes we did suffer. However, I got things out of growing up that the "rich" kids didn't. My family was very close. To this day we never argue. We value things most people take for granted. We know what it was like to starve and today we NEVER waste food. We have respect for the dollar and learned to be thrifty enough so that our children will be taken care of the rest of their lives. We learned a desire that most do not have to succeed. We learned what it means to help others. We learned things the other kids did not and in some ways made us much more advantaged. We never went on welfare OR took food stamps either. Today all of my siblings are VERY successful and we have taught all of our kids these same virtues.

In my opinion: I don't believe wealthy or well off people should have kids until they learn what it means to starve first.

maybe you should join in the nazi party since you think these people are taking so much from you.
do you eat every day?
then shut the hell up, your not helping others
but bitching therefore nothing more than a flaming dog.
Either help the poor, or shut up. Killing children is better?
wouldn't want your judgement upon my head. When you disregard the poor and act like a nazi racist you will think osama bin laden was nice compared to what the poor are going to do here.

By the way maybe you should rethink having children so you don't purportrate your hate through generations to come.
Judgement is not yours it is the Lords
the Lord will provide enough, his promise
child sacrafice is an abomination to God
There are no excuses for not helping the poor and you will be judged for that, Jesus says
did you feed my people?
clothe the naked?
give water to the thirsty?
if not, he will deny you as you have denied these the least of his people.
Greed and pride are two sins that people like you have gone so deep into we cant get out and now the USA is going to be destroyed because of it.
I am not perfect by any means but think of this, when you have a child it could be the next Moses or elijah, etc. you never know.
You never know when you are entertaining an angel so be hospitable to everyone.
By the way, I have four children, on welfare and in four years I might just be your nurse so you better be careful of who you piss off. I am also going to school to be a missionary and go to Africa to feed the poor while you all complain about how much it makes YOU suffer to help those who can't help themselves.
THIS ATTITUDE DISGUSTS ME AND MAKES ME SAD
PLEASE TRY TO SEE IT FROM THIER SHOES HOW OPREESSION IS CARRIED DOWN AND HOW HARD IT IS TO RISE ABOVE WHEN EVERYWHERE YOU TURN THERE IS A ROADBLOCK.
BUT THROUGH ME THEY WILL SEE A WAY AND WILL GLORIFY THEIR FATHER IN HEAVAN AND KNOW JESUS LOVES THEM.

"Is it wrong that poor people keep having children they can't afford?"

For some people, having children is a government sponsored meal ticket. This is the direct result of easy government money via welfare. It is particularly obvious in the rise of single mothers by choice. That this is such an easily available choice without any charge of responsibility attached to it, makes it part of our collective problem as a society now.

There are even instances where there's an expectation of this privilege. See the link for more:

If a person is on state asistence they should take the nesesary steps to prevent getting pregnent.Untill they no longer need help. Most of the time the way the state is set up makes people want to have more kids so that they meet the recuirements to get assistent. Its like a visiouse cycle. Its like keeping the opressed-opressed.Of corse people can choose not to fall to that. Also most people wont work at mcdonalds or garbage pickup and other jobs that society deems low class. They think their to good for that.A job is a job.Another thing that disterbs me is that women can be on welfare but make sure theyve got their fake finger nails on even though they need to buy their birth control.Even the poor live like their rich. Most poor people dont know what its like to be poor.Im not against getting help when its nessesary ive had to but i didnt stay there. And when we were poor we didnt eat out but maybe once a mt if our budget allowed. We got one xmas present per person. We ate oatmeal for breakfast and not instant kind.People arent tought how to budget, arent tought how to run a home or how to cook on low budget.People arent tought how to save money untill they have enough to buy what they want they get what they want right now on credit.Get now and aw ill pay latter maybe.Going bankrupt is in.Thatll solve all our problems!Fast and easy!Lol!When we do wrong or make mistakes its some one elses fault. The next outragiouse thing is instead of the state paying for more children theyll even pay for an abortion, another fast easy way to get rid of something in our way that keeps us from doing ,being what we want.Instead of living up to responcibilities.
If a person doesnt have alot of income but still have children hay go for it,keep building your family doesnt hurt to be poorer there isnt any thing wrong there as long as you can do it on your own with out the state help.I grew up poor and it didnt hurt me actually im glad i learned alot and i sure wasnt fat.Even though now days the poor are fat couse heathier foods cost much more than fast prossesed foods.Wow how things are so backwords.Ahhh what tangled webs we weave.

All children are precious in the sight of God and no child is born without a destiny. Therefore, it is not wrong to have children whether you are poor or not. The real problem is in the disintegration of morals in our society. When morality is kept to high standards it diminishes the number of pregnancies out of wedlock, it diminishes the number of abortions, and it diminishes the number of acts of violence against children. When there is an absence of morals there will always be irresponsible sex, and a disrespect of human life. In an immoral or even an amoral society, there is rampant self centeredness and love cannot coincide with it. Without love for others, you will not see people taking serious responsibility within the context of relationships, marriage, having children, making great personal sacrifices for the good of your family. A responsible, moral person would abstain from sex when the result would be an unwanted child. In an amoral society, too many people are only thinking of their own satisfaction and pleasure and disregard or disrespect the consequences for their actions. Then when the consequences become burdensome, there can be abuse which can also result in tragedy..

So it is not poverty in itself that is causing the problems because there have been poor people since the beginning of time. Always in amoral, selfish societies there is more irresponsibility, more abuse, more child neglect, more violence when selfish whims are frustrated, and less self sacrifice for the good of the whole. However in Moral societies it is more likely that people will be responsible with their sexuality resulting in fewer unwanted births. fewer abusive situations, and more people caring enough to make personal sacrifices to make a better living situation for their families and society as a whole, and less violence.

In societies with strong moral codes, which has been proven throughout history, there are strong nuclear families with lots of children who even in spite of dire poverty are generally happy, fruitful, and cope with the problems of poverty well because there is love and a strong sense of morality, and self sacrifice. Those qualities are the adversaries of selfishness, immorality and self centeredness.

As far as the welfare problem, again I say it is a problem born of amorality because that is the mentality of selfishness and not of love which would bring into the picture self sacrifice for the good of the whole and honesty and scruples.

The only way this situation will change is if this country would return to Moral Values as the norm and forsake the religion of SELF indulgence. Many underprivileged people have grown up in poor families and become successful. This is only because of Love, Morality and self sacrifice instead of immorality, self centeredness and disrespect of human life.

I don't know about 'educated' but I get your point although you probably should be willing to look from different vantage points just to see if you can:
1. It sounds like you are suggesting that only middle-class and rich people should have children and the middle class--not that many. Think of the long term ramifications: If this actually happened, over time you'd have an aging rich country with no military and no low-wage workers. Rich kids don't go to the military. Rich kids don't pave roads. These are some unspoken reasons why mexican illegals are allowed to come here despite the public outcry. I'm sure this doesn't sound quite the way I mean it--but just food for thought. Poor people are by design.

2. Who would be the judge of whether someone has enough money to have children? How much is enough money? Most middle class people (quiet as its been kept) are living 2-3 paychecks from foreclosure. So even the middle-class wouldn't qualify in an economic downturn or if a catastrophic illness occurred. That just leaves the rich to be priviledged with posterity.

3. People love to talk negatively about public aid for human well-being but turn their heads when it comes to public aid for rich corporations, utilities, oil companies, and any other conglomerates that get tax breaks and bail-outs on the public dole. Are we so hateful to one another as human beings that we have allowed these corporations to hypnotize us so as not to see the free money they get from us that would make each and every one of us rich if it were distributed to us (and thusly bequethed with the blessing to have children ...according to your ilk).

4. The rich and middle class may have more money but they are not qualified to have children just because of it. Countless rich/middle class parents have neglected, tortured and killed their children (allowed them to overdose in their own homes at un-chaperoned parties, drowned them in bath tubs, cut off their arms, locked them in their new SUVs in 100 degree weather, repeatedly sexually abused them while dressing them up like grown women for child beauty pageants).

It's not how big your bank account is, it's how big your heart is--that's my point.

Not all poor people neglect their kids ; but it really ticks me off that you have to have a license to fish and any moron can have a kid . Sometimes being poor can mean being uneducated-as far as birth control goes .In a perfect world , nobody would bring a child into the world that they could not support -financially , or otherwise .

Do poor people, in fact, "keep having children"? Is it really true that underprivilaged families have more children than middle class families?

Many people confuse the true statistics that families in poor *countries* are larger than families in rich *countries*, with the false idea that poor people within a single country have more children than better off people.

In the USA, the average family size of welfare recipients is almost exactly the same as the national average.

The breakdown in 1994 for welfare recipients is as follows:
Number of children
One 43.2%
Two 30.7
Three 15.8
Four or more 10.3

Very few of these families are "large".

Yes if you are poor and are on Welfare/Medicaid birth control is free. You can also go to Planned Parenthood and it is also free. Welfare choose be limited and only used to help people get on their feet and not to support them for the rest of their lives. Lifetime limits and drug testing.

Unfortunately, they haven't passed the bill about the mandatory vasectomy or tubal ligation welfare recipients must have yet. That will come with the new age of Big Brother, so just hold on a little longer!
