At Galveston, Texas, in 1900, a great storm surge occurred as a result of a hurricane. 8000 perished when sea water consumed the island. Should that surge be considered a tsunami?

Like these answers! (as of 8/22/06)However, a tsumani cannot be defined by the way it is caused. For example, an asteroid impact can cause a tsunami. This is why I have a problem with the definition.

From NOAA website:

A tsunami is a series of ocean waves generated by sudden displacements in the sea floor, landslides, or volcanic activity. In the deep ocean, the tsunami wave may only be a few inches high. The tsunami wave may come gently ashore or may increase in height to become a fast moving wall of turbulent water several meters high.

Storm surge is simply water that is pushed toward the shore by the force of the winds swirling around the storm. This advancing surge combines with the normal tides to create the hurricane storm tide, which can increase the mean water level 15 feet or more. In addition, wind waves are superimposed on the storm tide. This rise in water level can cause severe flooding in coastal areas, particularly when the storm tide coincides with the normal high tides. Because much of the United States' densely populated Atlantic and Gulf Coast coastlines lie less than 10 feet above mean sea level, the danger from storm tides is tremendous.

A storm surge is caused by the low pressure in the middle of a deep depression sucking the water up above its normal level. A tsunami is caused by earth movement; either an earthquake or a landslip. It's more than just an academic distinction. Storm surges are much more predictable than tsunamis. If meteorologists see a deep depression moving your way they will issue a storm surge warning, but as yet there's no reliable way to predict a tsunami.

A storm surge is caused by a low pressure system (water from an Ocean that is raised by lower atmospheric pressure above the water that is surging and around it because of the low atmospheric pressure around it). A tsunami is caused by a push (earthquake/landslide...) on the ocean or large body of water that causes a ripple in the body of water.

In my recommendations there is not any huge distinction between operating dogs and pets through utilising vendors who use operating dogs. i encounter that throughout optimal circumstances the operating lines make extra useful pets as they're bred sounder and are extra trainable.
