Bless you. You've even inspired me to comment. My advise is that you give to a charity with a mission that has connection to either yourself, or another member of your family; in this way, you'll not only help countless people, but it shall serve as a gesture of love toward those that mean the most to you.

To please you and perhaps to get 10 points from the asker, I would say I contribute to Unicef, which is the most prestigious and important world organnization, because it directly cares for the children throughout the world.
But to tell the truth for this forum, I wish to say the following:
Charity with extra money is not charity.
Many Americans contribute to charity funds only with the money they are exempted from tax. That is not charity.
Calling for or passing other people's money to poor people is not charity.
Those are kinds of placing balms on outside wounds. Yes, we must do all this cure, but it is not charity, because it leads mankind to nowhere!
Charity is sacrificing your own and most precious self to bring true peace, happiness, progress to all people without distinction of the rich or the poor, the high or the low, the good or the bad people. To do this true charity, you need to return to God for this important lesson.

I donate to Samaritan's Purse. They help people here and in other countries in many different ways. You can choose what you want to donate to within their organization. They have a gift catalog link at their site. You are able to choose exactly what you want to give to someone or you can just donate a sum of money for them to use it where it's needed. I enjoyed sending blankets and milk, food, farm animals and toys to children and families at Christmas in the names of family members. Samaritans Purse then sent them a card telling them of the gift given in their name. It was a great Christmas. It's a nice way to donate if you don't have a lot of money and be able to know what you did for someone. You can purchase anything from a toy, to a months supply of milk or food, blankets, chickens for a family to raise all the way up to shelters, houses and boats. Here's their link if you'd like to look and see what they do.

I also donate to the Red Cross - money and blood.

I also donate to a local camp here called Camp Sundown. It's a camp that is for children who have a condition that causes them to not be able to go out in the sun. They live most of their lives indoors and when out they are so swaddled up in protective clothing it's hard for them to join in activities. This camp gives them a place to go with other children with the same problems and they have lots of fun things for them to do. Here's a link about them.

Whatever charity you choose, thank you for being willing to help others. (-:

I always said that if I won the lottery I would donate to the Heart and Stroke because of my fathers heart attack. The Cancer Society, because of all the women in my family that has passed from cancer and who have survived cancer. The Kids Help Phone, because every child should have someone on the other end of the phone line. Go with anything that is important to you.

Red Cross. They do Serious "Godd" Work in every crisis and are usually the first ones there. In the floods, hurricanes, tidal waves, wars, earthquakes....all over the world! and in this country they do much better than FEMA. I have some first-hand experience with this. Every disaster, they are there.

I'd donate it to the local anti-animal abuse foundation. There are not many things that hurt my heart that seeing an animal abused or neglected. All dogs want is love and attention, but thousands of people every year are felony-convicted for animal abuse. It tears my hear to pieces.
People have themselves and the law to speak for them, animals do not. Please help give them a voice.
