emachines 400 ie3
It is a computer for guests in the hotel lobby to just surf the internet. We have DSL. I have gotten a computer tech over and fixed the cables and everything. I can go on AVG and get it updated, but Internet Explorer says it cannot find a server. Everything is right on start menu>run>command>ipconfig. It is set on getting a automatic ip address and everything. I think it just might be I E is corrupted or broken. If it is I don't know how to repair it, any ideas?

sounds like to me that your IE has been highjacked, if you close it and then run the Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D, and cleanup it should fix your problem. Spyware sometimes can stop you from browsing I have the trouble even on my system at times and after I do Maintaince I don't have that trouble and that goes for even when you have DSL

Try clearing the box that says "Automatically Detect" for the ip address, if it's already set then you don't need to automatically get a ip address if one is assigned.. Good Luck, Oh Yeah, get a better qualified tech who knows what they are doing, don't waste your money...

go to control panel....add remove programs.....windows components(or something like that.....it's been a while since i tried to trouble shoot win98)...look for internet explorer and delete it. a page should pop up with a menu. check repair and ok(or what ever)

Reformat..start fresh..it will work fine after that.
