Nothing is being done. Time travel is a conjecture that may be -- just MAY be -- a remote possible side effect of passing through a wormwhole, which is a hypothetical construction involving black holes.
Since no one knows how to build black holes, conjecturing about possible experiment or pratical machines is an exercise in futility.
Just be satisfied moving towards the future at the rate of 31556925 seconds per year for now, because that is all that is going to happen.

I once banged my head on the edge of the sink while standing on a toilet to hang a clock and when I came-to I had a vision in my head to create a "flux capacitor" which makes time travel possible. I then stylishly packaged it in a plutonium-carrying DeLorean and set off on some wild adventures!
Sadly, such things are only in the realm of fiction like the popular Back to the Future films. However, time travel is a theoretical possibility. Actually, we time travel every moment of our existence and at different rates relative to every other moving body. But the means to travel backwards in time or accelerate to a distant future is beyond our current capabilities. Your best bet might be to cryogenically freeze yourself and hope that one day in the future someone can thaw you out and revive you.

Time travel to the future, even according to Einstein's theory of relativity, is impossible, because the future doesn't even exist yet. And traveling back in time is like diving on an old submarine with "one dive left", since when you go back in time, the future we know as present day will no longer exist. So, even if we COULD find someway to travel faster than the speed of light, we wouldn't really want to. The practical and ethical issues that come with trying to time travel are just too staggering to ignore.

This probably isn't the answer you're looking for, but, in REALITY, every time you look toward the heavens at the stars and planets, you are looking into the past. Some of the stars that you see shining and twinkling away have burned out many years ago - their light is still traveling toward earth and you are literally "seeing" the star as it WAS many years ago in the past.

As far as I know there are not any projects they are working on about time travel, but of course the government does not tell us everything. I had heard once that H.G. Wells had experimented with the idea. But I have no idea if he actually created one. I think it might be dangerous if one was created and fell into the wrong hands. Maybe he did make one, and destroyed it because of that reason.

not very popular ones. i know one man is thinking that time machine will begin with our conciousness reaching a different time. and he's started a project on that. most other time travel though is strictly shown through mathematics and theories.
