Hello guinevere80,
I highly recommend the older PowerBooks that utilize the G4. The Adobe Suites and other graphics programs take advantage of the processors there, even better than the Intel chips in the new MacBook Pros. Of course that won't take long before they utilize the power of Intel's processor.
The benefit of the new MacBook Pros is the capability of being more compatible with Windows, which, frankly the Mac hasn't been good at.
Don't get a Windows laptop though. Friends don't let friends get Windows. :-) One word; Viruses!

macs. my sister is doing Graphic Design in university and they told her to get a mac - something to do with the programs the industry uses
