A trial date is where, if you are not sure if you want to go out with someone, you go on a "trial date." If you have fun, and you get a kiss at the end, it converts to a "real date." If you do not have fun, and it does not work out, it wasn't a real date, just a trial date, so its ok.
Seriously, some bad bad info above. This is a civil case. If you do not show up, the Credit Card company will get a judgment against you (not a warrant for you arrest, what a dunderhead)
Then, they can follow up with supplementary proceedings and try to get bank accounts etc., garnish wages.
So ... show up for trial date -- it can't get worse than a default judgment. There won't be an arrest and, who knows, you might win. uh,. priobably not

The exactly procedures will vary by court, but you may start trial that day. If this is a jury trial, you may start picking a jury or be going over exhibits.
Some courts will schedule multiple trials at the same time, so you case might "trail". When you case is trailing, it is like being on a waiting list for the next available judge and court room. This waiting game could go on for days or even weeks.
If you owe the money, it would be much better for your credit rating to negotiate a settlement.

He was probably talking to the guy standing behind you. Don't worry about it. If anyone gets all uppity about it, give 'em my name as a reference.
