Left side of Engine.(Driver's side) Lower rear. Looks like a small coffee can on its side. Probably see it easier, if you crawl underneath.
Same on Diesels and Gas. Be sure to disconnect your battery, if you're gonna work on it.

The starter is mounted under the vehicle beside the oil pan and bolted to the transmission bell housing.

thats a mighty old truck. I did'nt know that thay had starters back then.
