Well, the system is built right now in such a way that, if MS would win every race remaining this season (HIGHLY UNLIKELY!) and Fernando finishes second in every one, they would be equal on points after the final race, but MS would win because the rules state that in the event of a dead heat, the winner is the one that won the most races; if equal on that, the biggest number of second places and so on.

But, as I said, this is highly unlikely. Right now, Fernando and the R26 showed a huge comeback from the July disasters.

So my bet is firmly on the blue car with a Spanish driver behind the wheel.

there is only one way Schumacher can beat Alonso: Schumacher wins every remaining race, which is VERY hard

Gregnir gave a pretty picture of how the points are scored!!

Basically, Schumi have to score about 2 points more then Alonso for all the remaining races to win the championships/.

Correct answer by Gregnir. Basically, if Michael wins next race and Fernando doesn't finish in the points ( highly likely, I know), they will be equal on points. That would be great for the sport!
