--The light only blinked for about 3-4 seconds as I was idling on an uphill (I wasn't pressing the brake).
--This is the first time this has happened.
--The car has 167,000 miles.
--I recently hit the curb at 40 mph (got the struts replaced, and the car aligned). Is it related?

The O/D light will flash/blink to let you know that a transmission code has been stored. You need to get the car scanned to reveal the code. Once this is done, you will have some direction as to where the problem is.........

Is a possibility that you may have done more damage than you realize, or jarred the solenoid loose in the transmission. Hope its something simple and easy to fix.
