Masks themselves were used by many different cultures before in the past about the period even as early as the bronze age. Most believed they needed someone to take the place of the "god" they worshipped in order to attune themselves closer to him, so one person was usually given an honor by "being" that "god" for their festivals, rituals, or even battles.

Later, some larger, more sophisticated civilazations even went so far as to honor their "gods" in order to appease them by means of theater, such as the Greeks and the Romans.

The Egyptians still used masks of their "gods" during the mummification period in order to ritualize the passing of their pharoah into the spirit world and right back into the real world again by wearing different masks of the gods during the transition of those 60 days.

The Norse, from what I recall, used masks in order to horrify their victems when raiding by sea, and also when burying their Jarls in order to fool the "frost giants" that they may run into during their march to the sea in order to send their dead on their final voyage.

Masks symbolized so much in our society, its a good question and I enjoyed trying to answer it! I know you only asked for one by each person but it seemed that you were getting some pretty ignorant answers so I figured I should give you what I could to help.

try wikipedia or something. that always helps.

first, think of all the countries you know of where most people believe in multiple gods (ex: egypt, syria, india...)

now think of which one would be most likely to use masks..

look up (with internet or books) that country or maybve the religion they follow (if you know the name) and read to see if they do use masks.

...and thats how you can make it easier to find that country you're looking for, because i really have no clue what the answer is.

:)

What gods? There is only one God and he doesn't require a mask to honor him!

Well, you don't say culture or time. So I guess, you are referring to ancient cultures. Try Greeks, Egyptians, Incas, Mayas, Celtic cultures and some African too.

There is no mask needed to "honor" JESUS CHRIST...

Only your willingness to submit yourself to HIM, and repent your sins, and be baptised, and live a Christian life!

Forget gods and goddesses...they are nothing compared to the SON of our FATHER...
Trust in JESUS CHRIST as your Saviour.

I wish you well..
