i've got an electric guitar with a tremolo bridge

This works with a stratocaster, not sure about other guitars.

Do you have any other guitar strings around? Try taking one of the thicker ones and poke the wire end into the thing holding the stuck string, from the other side - see if you can dislodge it. You might have to try wiggling it round.

It's SO easy to show this, but so difficult to describe! Hope that makes sense.

It's easy . Just use the rest of the string to push it thru . CUT the long string CLEAN with a pair of diagonal cutters . Then push it through the hole from the front of the guitar thru to the back It may bypass the piece of string that is hiding in the tremolo section , but keep at it .......you will eventually catch the ball end, or the string itself. If it takes too long, try putting a slight bend in the string that you are pushin' with

Can you get it out with a needle-nose plier?
