i work a split shift with a two and a half hour break in between. was told it was a state law that you receive a higher wage when doing so. trying to find out if this is true. i work for a company that is federally funded.

I suppose it is not impossible, I just have never heard of it happening in any state I have worked in. This sounds more like a policy for a particular company or a union than it does for state law.

I never got a higher wage for a split shift. It's not over time, is it?

By law, all companies are required to post the labor wage laws in the place of employment where all employees are able to read them. If not, contact the labor board.

Check the website for your state government, or the blue pages in the phone book. Look for the Department of Labor (or something similar, in Oregon it's the Bureau of Labor and Industries) and call them.

All I know is that overtime is time and a half. I don't know about split shifts.
