Gah, people give such simple answers that don't actually answer much.
2+2*3+5

Using order of operations, you would multiply first, then add. The Problem becomes 2+6+5, and the correct answer is 13. If you didn't use order of operations, you could get something like 4*8 which is 32. A far cry from the answer you seek.

If everyone didn't do the problem with the same set of rules (order of operations)... it's possible to get two different answers to the same question. For example: 2+6x3. Doing this left to right... the answer is 24. However... using order of operations... the correct answer is 20.

3(6 + 2) = 24

3 times 8 = 24

in the wrong order 3 times 6 plus 2 = 20

If you don't do the order of operations you will most likely get the problem wrong.

For consistency, so everybody can always get the same answer, given the same set of operations performed on the same set of numbers. If everybody did their own thing, there'd be no such thing as a right answer.

because if u dont... u'll get a totally different answer from the rite one. they tell u to do it in a specific order for a reason. for example 5+4x3 if u do it in order from left to rite, u'll get 27. but if u use the order of operations u'll get the correct answer, 17. hope i helped.

So you can get the right answers. Get the wrong answers, get a bad grade, fail math.... life is over.
