Word problems can be tough. It will help you to work through each one. First you have to find out two things. What are they asking you and what information do they give you. Sometimes they try to trick you by giving information you don't need. Here we go. Please follow with me so you actually learn HOW to do this. Just getting the right answer won't help you the next time you have to do it without us>
1) They tell you that eggs cost $1 per pound, and 12 eggs costs $2. So now you know that 12 eggs weighs 2 pounds. One egg weighs about 1/6 pound. So it costs 1/6 dollar = $0.16.
2) Two bricklayers lay 90 bricks in 90 minutes. One bricklayer lays 45 bricks in 90 minutes, or one brick every two minutes. In 60 minutes he can only lay 30 bricks. But you need to have 210 bricks laid in 60 minutes, so you will need 7 workers (each lays 30 bricks an hour).
3) This is a little advanced for 5th gade, so you'll have to do it out manually: uuuu, uuup, upuu, uupu, puuu, upup,
puup,pupu
4) They are telling you that one hour later is half the difference between midnight and now. That means that from now to midnight is 2 hours.

1. An egg would weigh 1/6 of a pound, since 12/2=6...1 dollar for 6 eggs so to calculate the cost you need 1/6 of 1...
2. 4, as it takes each bricklayer an hour to lay 60 bricks, 210/60=3.5 but you can't have half of a person so it's 4...
3. 8 different combinations (UUUU,UUUP,UUPU,UPUU,PUUU,PUPU,PUUP,UPUP)
4. Don't know, sorry...give me some more time to think.

It would be better to ask for help on how to work the problems........This is one of the reasons my 5th grader in not allowed on the internet unless I am by his side. What are you going to do when you have a test, you won't be able to get someone to give you answers? You would feel a lot better knowing you had help but done it on your own. Good luck with school.

That's so wrong! Why don't you tell us what you think the answer is and we'll tell you if you're right? You want to make it to 6th grade you'll figure it out on your own.
