In colonial time...some women took care of their husband, children, and the housework. And the poorer families...the women were maids for the gertries(higher class people) OR they were midwives. What is SOOOOOO bad with being a midwife. Wouldnt you rather do that than clean someones house?lol

Did they specialize so much? I think they took care of people in all sorts of illnesses and times of need. Was that specified in the book? Just curious.
But to answer the question, I think people did help as midwives out of caring, because when does a women need help more?

I'd deliver the babies over the housework. There were no vacuums, no dishwashers, no washing machines. Boil some water, and get ready, I say!

I would have chosen housework...rarely is there an emergency related to housework, but with birthing babies, anything can happen and anytime.
