There may be one or two occurrances. I ran into a few bad experiences, but most of them involved alcohol.
The bullying and bad social behavior will be much less of a problem in college than it is in high school. You can tell him I said so! ;) Most of the kids chill some by the time they get to college. If someone is a jerk, just figure that out early and avoid those people. The guys who are jerks congregate in two places:
1) Wherever there is alcohol
2) At the gymnasium (basketball courts)
I had a few bad experiences in college. All of them occurred in those two places, and those two places only.

I think on the college level you don't have as much of the bullying that occurs in high school. I'm not sure if it's different for student's living on campus, but once he's there he'll probably fall into a group of friends very similar to he is and he'll feel more comfortable. Just make sure he knows that this is a chance for him to start over and be himself without being bullied. College is a great opportunity to explore who we are.

Bullying in college? Usually most of the college population has grown up and left bullying behind. They're mostly concerned with classes. But I'm sure if he goes in with a positive outlook he'll do absolutely fine. I would suggest trying to support him to join clubs/organizations; it's a wonderful way to meet new people; even when you're really shy there's always someone bold who will just come up to you and start talking. Having even just one or two friends even on a relatively small campus can go a really long way. :D

I really don't think this is so much a problem in college. It's very different from high school. Particularly on a small campus...the bullies from high school have been weeded out -- and trust me, they haven't been accepted to a 1500-student campus.

People who are in college have by and large outgrown bullying. It's not something he needs to worry about. He may want to use caution though about joining a frat, going thru hazing and that sort of thing.

tell him to make sure he rooms with the biggest baddest dude on campus and make friends with him at least he will be covered if a fight breaks out.
The shy guys usually don't cause trouble so he should be ok but to be safe at least have him room with the big guy!!!

Yeah..I have to agree with the kid needing to grab his balls and pull his mamas titty outta his mouth..is this question for real?
Maybe he needs a prescription for anxiety..
In my experience - college bullies aren't a big problem..
Get the poor kid a therapist.

Tell him this is not the 5th grade and to grow some balls and fight back.
He should join a gay students group.
There is safety in numbers.
