its been in storage for 18 months huh? Well it may be that ur comp dis or the main computer thingy might be fried!

According to Microsoft, you can no longer get security updates/patches for this operating system. In my opinion, I would not use this computer on a network of any kind as it is a prime target for hackers. Even if you were able to get the machine to power on, I would not use it for anything except a stand-alone system and NOT connected to the internet.

Here is the news from microsoft.com:
Effective July 11, 2006, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Me (and their related components) will transition to a non-supported status. After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide any incident support options or security updates. Microsoft is not offering a custom support agreement for these products.

Before I junked it I would take the side case off and check all the cables and the power to the hard drive and the mother board A drive and your CD-Rom. It my just be a lose cable never know tell you look.

Open the case, blow out all the dust and cobwebs with compressed air.
Remove the RAM and all add in cards, unplug all the connectors & cables...reinstall all and make sure they are well seated.
Make sure the switch on the power supply is ON (some have it, some don't).
NOW try to boot...

if the ide cable is not connected properly to your drives this will stop it from starting, or if there is a short in one

Not positive but it could be you need to replace the computer battery.

Check the backup battery for your operating system. It may have failed.

check the power supply, but it sounds like you Hard disk has fried or ceased
