I remember reading this book in elementary school, it was a diary of this girl whose father was a soldier but he had died, and the diary was about how she didn't like her mother's new boyfriend, and having to go to a new school and I remember one of the entries was talking about her writing the school newspaper. It was a very good book, and I would love to try to find it. Also, there's another book which precedes the one that I am looking for, which shows the main character younger, and it shows her dad in it more, if that helps at all. Thank you!

I think that might be part of the Dear America series. I'm not sure exactly which one of those books it is, but the Dear America books are fictional diaries of kids in the past, such as the civil war, or an american indian, or an egyptian princess. Yours sounds really familiar and similar to the plot line of those books.
