Well, assuming you're bald, 18 months isn't very off. However, hair isn't constantly growing. Every two weeks, the hair cycle ceases and then restarts, so that for a certain short period of time hair doesn't grow at all. Regardless, I doubt you're bald. So, if you have short hair, about a year would be a good estimate, and if it's of mediocre length, maybe 9 months. Also, as you age, hair grows at a slower rate, except in the teenage years, of course. Much of it also depends on genetics; not all grow hair at the same rate. Also, curly hair grows faster than wavy hair, and wavy fastr than straight. There are too many variables to judge for sure.

well Simple mathematics would give you an incorrect answer. Mainly because of the growth cycle of hair. Hair has a dormant stage that should be taken into account if you are looking at a single strand.
