he's allowing you to breath
he allows us to make our own choices
the term fairness is a human creation. God is pure love and truth/ - he gave us the choice, we sinned and as a result, we become separated from him - he grieves for us because he knows that our choice (sin) will kill us.
because we can't redeem ourselves on our own, he gave his only son who DIED for us thereby making HIMSELF the sacrifice for our sin. Jesus stands between us and the Father to petition on our behalf. Difficult to understand - but there it is.

I take it from your question that a loving God and what you see does not seem to match up?
What I will say is to get you past your question.
I can truthfully tell you that God doesn't love anybody very much. The reason I can say that is because God is love. (Love is not something God does but what God is.) Love as we think of it is not God.
God unfolded Himself in Christ and walked the earth as a man named Jesus. He did a mile in your shoes and mine so that we could once again touch the eternal spirit of Love.
God is done. He has made a way and all we have to do is accept it and walk in it.
With a few notable exceptions, there isn't anybody in this world who is literally further than nine yards from heaven or more than a moment away from the kingdom of God.
That contact will answer this question and many others to your satisfaction. Something that no man can really do. Consider paragraph two. God doesn't pass out candy. He is the candy. You must partake. I hope this is of some help.

Well if someone wanted you to live instead of killing you. I would say that is Loving.
If someone knew that they set in motions cretin laws that were to be obeyed no matter what and they weren’t, but death was the only way to pay for the crime. Then you asked another that helped you set up the laws that were not to be broken and said to them if I have set these up and they can not be broken and the penalty is death then how can I enforce them? And if the one that helped said, I will take the death and if you will grant me this that I take all the wrong on me that the law breakers will be free to come and choose to live in life with you. And the law make said IT IS DONE.
I would say that is an awesome love that one has for me.
(Jhn 3:16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
NOTE: Everlasting!!! Life forever!!! Just imagine what could be done forever. There is a whole universe out there to play in.

First, define your terms. What does "loving" mean? Does a parent love his or her children even if he or she is strictly fair in dividing time and attention among them? Is there any contradiction in the way you define your terms between "loving" and "fair". If so, perhaps you ought to re-examine what you mean by "love". Second, you must define what you mean by God. Jesus has obviously (according to the many answers above) been presented as a loving God. Jehovah of the Old Testament is a lot more stern and legalistic (but again, is that really the same as "unloving"?) What about non-western interpretations of God? Great spirits, universal consciousnesses, single diety forces with multiple manifestations, and other non-traditional notions of "God" are often presented as being both loving and destructive at the same time, much as certain trees can only reproduce and deposit their seeds after being consumed by a forest fire. Personally, I believe that an infinite diety must be capable of infinite love, but we finite beings cannot always recognize it as such.

Yes he is a loving God. We may not think he is fair sometime with the things that happen in our life. I do believe that we eventually find out that what we go through is human but if God intervenes he can take what is bad and use it for good. We just aren't on the same time table as God

First off , He gave you life and every day that you are alive is a gift. It isn't because you deserve to be alive, it is because He loves you and wants to have communication with you. Look up at the sky, what do you see. Blue? He gave you the ability to see blue when he created you. We all could have black and white vision but he wanted us to see all the colors he made. How about all the animals around. They weren't necessary either. We don't have to eat them, we can live off the land. They were given as a gift to keep us company. We were told to be caretakers of them. That's why its so sad that we kill them. But that's another subject. How about love. Its the best feeling in the world and the worst when we don't have it. Who gave that to you---that ability to receive love from someone even if it isn't just God. He wants you to experience love but you have to believe he has it for you. If you are angry at God and don't believe he is loving then you will be a miserable person that will never open yourself up to anyones love and worse yet, you will never give it. Love comes from God, he is the source--believe he has it and it will be given to you. :)

God is just. Hes loving because he utterly gave up an aspect of himself, to taste and see what we go through here, to prove that there is something better. He set up rules after the begining of time to test us, and to ensure our own well-being. Since
"This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. " - 1 john 4:10
He made us to be with him forever. Because of our nature, and our souls, we have the ability to choose to follow and worship him.
Martin luther says in his early days,
"Have you ever stopped to wonder if god is not just? He made us, and put us in this world, tainted by sin. Then punishes us for not being strong enough to resist. He threatens us with hell, and eternal damnation."
His Father in Christ then replies,
"God is not mad with you, you are mad with god. He doesnt leave any temtation that we cannot handle. He sent christ to be our sacrifice, when the sacrifices of the old testiment became difficult..."
God IS love, and he is Just. Like most of his biblical themes, he is very paradoxical, however he doesnt exist in our rules. He sees things fairly. We choose to disobey, and we are responsible. Though God chooses the punishments.
--MOST IMPORTANT
If you read nothing, else, please note that because god is an infinite being, any disobedience is an eternal wrong. No ammount of our works could justify our wrong doings, because, we are all finite.

He's a loving God because he sent his only son to Earth to be punished and tortured so cruely, he was barely recognizable as a person, to basically cover for our mistakes. Now tell me something. How can you NOT see that as loving lol?
