A few sodas are not a big deal but soda is not that great though, depending on what kind you are drinking. In general I don't recommend it to anyone, pregnant or not as it has no nutritional value and artificial coloring, sweetening, caffeine etc. If people are looking to lose weight and drink a lot of soda, I find cutting out soda is sometimes all they need.

Anyway, if you must drink it, try to only drink a max of 1-2 a day and try to avoid the ones with caffeine and artificial sweeteners. If you are downing Super Big Gulps, that's way too much. You can try those clear flavored fizzy waters you get at the supermarket, they are almost as good tasting as soda but a little better for you, they have diet and ones with sugar.

However, if you are still worried, please remember thousands of women give birth every day and they don't even worry about taking a few Motrin or drinking a Big Gulp and their babies are fine. Pregnancy is hard enough as it is without depriving yourself, and those cravings are hard to fight! You have to grab a little happiness to brighten your day - and if having a soda every now and then makes you happy, so be it.

A cup a day is alright. More than that isn't a great idea. The caffeine is a big deal, but also all that sugar isn't wonderful for the baby too. Drink LOTS of water no matter what though. Also, make sure if you are drinking caffeine soda don't be drinking coffee or eating a lot of chocolate and candy on top of that. No more than 300g of caffeine a day is the rule of thumb.

I don't think it will necessarily hurt the baby but it's not the best thing for it either. Supposedly the caffeine is not good for the baby but other then that its just the fact that your filling up on soda when you should be drinking milk water and juice. I'd say at least cut back on the soda.

If the soda does not have caffeine you should be okay. I drank sprite alot with my first baby. I would stay away from diet soda - it's just chemicals and water. You can try some of the flavored sparkling waters, and also some of the natural sodas (Jones comes to mind) might be more healthy.

OB nurse should not have advised you to drink those fizzy flavored waters, as most of them contain artificial sweeteners, and have been proven to affect brain development. Stay away from diet sodas if you must indulge, for this reason. You are better off with the real thing, but avoid the caffeine. In your diet as a whole, avoid artificial sweeteners throughout your pregnancy. The worst affects of drinking the soda will be for you! You increase your chances of developing diabetes, and will be filling up on a lot of empty calories! It makes it much harder to lose the weight. The best of luck to you, and congratulations!

i know im not a lady, but you got to hear this...

occassional drinking of soda is ok. but frequent drinking is not good. if you're taking cola, the caffeine will affect your baby's brain development. while the sugar dosage you're having will also not be helpful when you give birth. high sugar level during pregnancy can complicate to a form of diabetes when you give birth, which will give you problems as the mother.

remember, anything in excess is bad for your health.

You're baby's gonna be born with gas! Just kidding. Soda is fine as long as it's decaf. Excessive caffeine during pregnancy is definitely not a good thing. Other than that . . . it isn't harmful to your baby. Congrats, by the by.

A 12-ounce can of a typical soda contains about nine teaspoons of refined white sugar. White sugar leaches the teeth & bones of calcium from within. If you take too many sodas during pregnancy, your foetus' skeletal development might be adversely affected. And infants & children who take too much sugar often display behavioural disorders & learning disabilities.

Well, its certainly better if you DON'T drink ANY cola.. but i guess if you really really really must.. you should just cut down a little.. it really depends on how much of a risk your willing to take with the little guy/gal rolling around inside of you... so its up to you.. you wont know till they come out...make a wise choice Vicky! Hope its a beautiful baby either way!
