Hmmm... it seems I was taught differently. All four of those are completely different things. Round characters have complex personalities and are life-like (like Holden Caulfield), while flat characters are simple and are less believable (usually characters that symbolize things, i.e. in allegories). Static characters do not go through change (Allie Caulfield), while dynamic characters experience a significant change (again, Holden Caulfield).
By the way, the examples used are characters from The Catcher in the Rye.

A flat character and a static character and a round character are the same thing as a dynamic.. that alot of things that mean the same thing.. lol

If something is static it means that it stays the same, it doesn't change. I think that this would also be true of a flat character. It would be dull, boring and lifeless.
If something is dynamic, it changes and evolves. I don't know about round but the term well rounded means that something is complete and has more than one dimension.

yes, generally you use flat and round in a more high school type class--english professors use the static and dynamic terms more than public school teachers from what i've seen.
