About a lady named Theresa Gonsalves. She is one of Micheal Jackson's friends...and she was having a affair with a married man that didn't want to claim her son "Todd". Michael was inspired by her story and wrote a song. This is what she says in her book "Obsessions: The shocking true story of the real Billie Jean in Michael Jackson's life and the obsession that almost killed her". Michael is only covers 3% of her book...the rest is about her life.
Micheal says the song is about groupies. Groupies that were getting with his brothers etc....he said this on a interview 10yrs ago. So I guess you can get what ever you want out of this information.

The song stemmed from a lady stalker who accused jackson of not claiming paternity to her twin kids. This was around 1981 during the jackson tour. She went as far as saying that she was "Billy Jean Jackson" and claimed that she was married to him. The courts ended up sending her to a mental institution and that is where the song came from.....
