In times like we are in now, getting a job at all is difficult.

In my opinion, the notion that employers don't want to hire older folks because they don't believe that employee will be around much longer, is trumped by the high costs of medical insurance these days. Having employees that are at high risk for needing a lot of medical care causes employers medical insurance costs to go up.

For that, you can blame the medical industry for creating an environment where doctors are forced to prescribe high numbers of expensive pharmaceuticals, tests and hospital stays.

You can blame the pharmaceuticals for excessively & artificially high prices for drugs.

You can blame the politicians who receive "campaign contributions" from these big businesses, who in return protect this grossly unethical nature that is now the medical industry.

You can also blame the American consumer who demands emergency care for every little sniffle, who demands drugs for every symptom, and whom do little to research and employ proper health practices, in lieu of the notion that they can just intake some chemical in pill form for general health improvement.
