my o/d light stays on all the time even if i press to turn it off

the switch at the shifter needs to be checked to see if it is still working or plugged in. Overdrive is fine there is almost no reason to turn it off unless you are a paperboy/person. In town stop and go driving the transmission does not need fourth overdrive gear. other than that leave it on for fuel economy.

Most likely means that you have a switch that is bad, or the solenoid is screwed up, and most likely is located inside the tranny. Or you got bigger problems than we may think.
