Its a ford 5.0 (302) head. I have seen some heads that came off of an engine with the same thing. The seals go up and down with the valve. I just dont understand how it would seal.

it keeps the oil from going down the valve stem. Works just like an umberella keeps the rain off.

It won't....and you'd best be sure that you have the little caps that go on the valves. You need to go to a machine shop with your old seals. They will fix you up....I promise. Good luck. Get the caps while your there if they are missing too. Take the whole head in.
