What? Rommel was forced to kill himself in 1944. He was not the "leader" of the German Army, so that should have nothing to do with your question.

Navy Adm. Karl Donitz became head of the German State on April 30th, 1945 after Hitler commited suicide. He was named leader because Hitler no longer trusted any of his closer confidants. Himmler had tried to negotiate a seperate peace and was discounted. Hitler had grown to dislike Goering because of his incompetence and bootlicking nature. Sec. Bormann had vanished to no one knows where. So, Hitler chose a true military man, one away from the inner circles of his Nazi Party, a Navy man. The Navy was consistently treated as a second-class citizen within the Nazi hierarchy and, thusly, Hitler knew that Donitz would not be self-serving, but a worthy successor to the German State.

No one. The war was won by the Americans. It took a while to start a new government. Read the History of Germany. There are still US Army bases in Germany.

The army was given jobs by the USA in the CIA and NASA and various political systems so that the Russians would not hire them.
Now you see a rise in Hitler/Nazi style politics here after wwII right?
wire tapping, jailing riotors, building concentration camps, overhaul of prison systems,. weird drug trials, killing prisoners and testing things on them.
Very scary.
