No, Plato heard about it indirectly from a friend of a friend. That's hearsay and it would not hold up in a court of law.
So if Atlantis was so far advanced and so great, where is the evidence? There is plenty of evidence of much "lesser" cultures. So what and where is some some evidence that supports such a claim? If there is evidence why do we need to "believe"?
Carl Sagan wrote that "extraordinary claims require extraordinary proofs".
The fact is that there is no evidence. None. Zero.
If someone make a claim, they are the one who must provide the proof. If they can't, then the claim is moot.

there is sturdy data that a sophisticated civilization existed interior the eastern Mediterranean and replaced into subsequently destroyed via a substantial volcanic eruption, earthquakes, and tsunamis. whether that replaced into Atlantis is questionable, considering that Plato's epic describes Atlantis as mendacity previous the pillars of Hercules, interpreted to be the promontories that flank the front to the Strait of Gibraltar. Ballard's eboook is approximately as sturdy as many history Channel documentaries -- in different words, a lot of hypothesis and not plenty interior the way of substance. would desire to there have been an Atlantis? We rather do no longer know all there is approximately historic civilizations that as quickly as coated the planet. There are ruins in eire that date lower back over 6,000 years with no longer something to point who it replaced into that built the unique homes or although. they might have been element of Atlantis, yet we in basic terms do no longer know. a lot of our human history is perpetually buried interior the classic previous and we can in all danger on no account know plenty approximately it.

Yes - so many thing have been written about it to be too much of "mythology". Mythology gets talked about and written about and that is it - there is the story.
With Atlantis - every once in a while there is always a "new piece of evidence"..........
Now - I do have another question - with all the people they put to dive for wrecks, etc - why hasn't someone found it..........that does put some doubt into my mind.

Yes, I think that it existed because people search for it everyday. I do no think that scientist would spend all that money to do deep sea dives on something that did not exist. I think it is located in Rome.

Yes. Too much evidence supporting it to discredit it. I think it was somewhere off the coast of Florida, and was probably as big as Puerto Rico.

Yes, because the Egyptian civilization was so advance. And that's who built it. Ultimately it was their technology that destroyed it. They mastered collecting solar energy, but didn't have sufficient means to store it. The place blew up!
