The 'rainbow flag' is the flag of gay pride so in that sense, yes a rainbow could be considered an icon for a sexual identity.
Equally, "somewhere over the rainbow" was the song sung by Judy Garland in the Wizard of Oz, and Judy Garland's death (June 22nd 1969) is widely attributed as being one of the causes of the Stonewall Riots (June 27th, 1969) - the first recorded incident of civil disobedience by the Gay Community, and one of the defining events in the steps taken by lesbians and gay men to achieve equality.
The stonewall riots, which hospitalised most of the New York City tactical police force, are celebrated in pride and mardi gras parades worldwide at this time of year, and mark the origination of the phrase "we're all friends of dorothy here", a euphamism for lesbian and gay sexual orientation, forever linking Judy Garlands performance as Dorothy, singing "somewhere over the rainbow" in "The Wizard of Oz", with lesbians and gay men.
So, culturally and historically there are reasons to suggest that rainbows could be perceived as being gay iconography, Yes.

Well technically speaking a 6 colored rainbow is the official "color" of homosexual people so it could very well be gay, especially if they are the colors on an earing worn in the right ear and only in the right ear.

The rainbow is a sign God places in the sky from time to time to remind us that He will never again flood the earth with water...
I wonder if He's telling us that things are getting as bad as they were back in the 6th chapter of Genesis and that the end is coming soon...?
I, for one, hope so...

Hope this helps!

Why are people who use Yahoo answers fixated on "gayness"? It is gay this, and gay that. Give it a rest. This is getting awfully stale.
