yes, they do. However, if you do not want a bunch of little hamsters running around and making even more hamsters until you are overwhelmed I would keep the sexes separate. It's probably too late for any females you have now if they are in with males, but they will mate right after giving birth and continue the vicious cycle.
Raven, I see by your previous questions that you have already had one litter born and that you have been given numerous links to information about hamsters. I urge you to take your male out of the cage with your female and once the litter is weaned to separate the sexes. If you have Syrian hamsters they will ALL require separate cages and I doubt you can or want to absorb the expense and time to ensure their proper care. If all you can provide is two cages (one for the adult male, one for the adult female) then contact the local pet store to see if they will take the babies. Your female is most likely pregnant again, so you will have to go through the process one more time.
In the event that you have dwarf hamsters, they can be kept in same-sex colonies but you will still need two cages. The cages will have to be a bit larger than what you would use for a single Syrian.
Good luck.

well, its pretty hard to miss but since hamsters are nocturnal, theyll most likely do it when youre sleeping. They dont really make any noises or give any kind of "warning" before it happens so really you just have to watch them all the time. But really, why do you want to watch the hamsters mate anyways. If its because you want them to have babies, they definatly will. Theyre worse than rabbits. And gestation is only a couple months so it wont take long to figure out the female is pregnant.
