My wife has this fobea about when she's sleeping in bed she can't let any body parts, (ie) arms, legs hang over the side of the bed. She's afraid something is going to grab them. Now she know that there is nothing under the bed. I was wondering if there are any other people like that out there.

yes i used to be that way. I watched the Jaws Movies when i was little and i had a nightmare about a Shark grabbing me and i moved around in bed so much i almost fell out of the bed. My mother grabbed my legs and tried to put them back in the bed and i freaked out totally. Ever since then I was this way. when i lived alone i didn't even get out of bed when it was dark in the room out of fear something would come from under the bed. I never even went to a Pool ever again (i don't know how to swim to this day). I got over the fear in my bedroom when i moved in with my boyfriend. Now i am married and when i am alone i sleep with a night light for some odd reason i am afraid of the dark and maybe she has a similar problem, she may not remember. Please don't push her to overcome this fear. She will come around one day or maybe never who knows. Just show her you understand and don't laugh at her or joke about it. It will not help at all.

Oh hell yeah there's lots of people like that. My sister and I are both that way. I'm not so much scared that something's going to grab me as I am of spiders and mice and stuff crawling on me. She used to be scared for years that something was under the bed and she always had to have the top bunk. But yeah I'm 19 and I still have phobias about stuff like that.

I believe its probably a phobia developed when she was young and told to stay in bed or the monster under the bed will get her? I do have an irrational fear of that when I sleep, but not all the time.

Probably a whole lot of people. If anybody has seen some of those Poltergeist movies, they have seen that clown down in the kid's room in a chair, and then, it is under thebed, and it grabs the kid, after he gets in bed. I bet she saw that first poltergeist movie!! Ask her. And you could put boards or something to cover the bottom of the bed, and then put a dust ruffle to hide it from anybody seeing it.

lol, I do that too.. but I saw a movie when I was younger where people were getting killed by being jerked out of their beds... I am glad I am not the only one that gets scared.. does she also not like having her back facing out of the bed.?.. she probably likes to sleep with her back toward the inside, lol I know I do... We are just weird about that kind of stuff..tell her I feel her pain

I've heard of that before.
I think it's fairly common.
I never let any body parts hang off the bed.....

not that I'm afraid......

but if anything hangs over the side, then it gets all bent out of shape (hand, wrist) and then is sore in the morning.....

yeah, that's why I never let anything hang over the side.....

there are several things that need to be noticed.
It is irraional and even unpratical for someone to be under your bed. There are many people who have made great comments.
we have nothing to fear but fear itself. Bible says perfect love cast out all fear. also bible says be careful "or Anxious" for nothin.it is a choice and dedication to follow and trust Jesus Christ

I get that way when I watch something scary at the movies or on TV. It also happens when I wake up from a bad dream! Not weird at all. We all have our phobias

well, i dont know anyone like that, but i heard that it could be caused by nighmares or bad childhood memories. such as if a family member told her a story about being things under her bed when she was younger. she may not remember it, but something in her dreams could remind her. at my college, they are doing studies of it. i hope this helps.
