Have a go at The Godfather by Mario Puzo. I read it over Summer and just fell in love with the tension, characters and structure of the story. Scary stuff and great sadness in it too. This is by no means a 'boys only' book as there are moments where tears are near the surface. Very passionate.

At the moment I am reading Tis which is the follow up to Angelas Ashes and I am really enjoying it. I have also started on The DaVinci Code which I am told is a great read if you can stick with it. I also find anything by Barbara Erskine very good she combines history and supernatural to give you a book that is hard to put down.

How about "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time" by Mark Haddon. A story told by a boy who suffers from autism, his struggles with daily life and the solving of the mystery of why a neighbour`s dog has been killed. A laugh out loud un-put-downable book.

Or how about "Dice Man" by Luke Rhinehart. Story of a psychiatrist who uses a die to make decisions in his life. Bizarre, shocking and humorous.
