The important thing about the broom is not the brush but the stick, which is a phallic symbol.

Don't know the answers, but it's more aerodynamic with the brush in the back. It will also help keep them from sliding off the back when the broom takes off quickly

The simple fact of the matter is, have you ever ridden a broom backwards? That is, with the brush to the front... It's not very aerodynamically sound.

When I got mine back from the shop it was exactly the same with NO new instructions. Like to know where you got that info because it is wrong! Unless is was some wild teen witch out for a little cruising

Because it looks like it makes more sense. If you're flying through the air, and there's a big bail of straw cutting right into the wind, that's going to create drag and bend the bristles.
If you point them to the back, then the wind will stream right over them.
It's aerodynamics.

I have never seen any illustrations of witches riding their brooms brushfirst.
I've never seen any witches themselves do it, either.
