Typically its a contact issue. The contacts get corroded because of moisture, dust, etc. On some, you can simply pop the keys, clean the contacts and replace the keys. On others, you've got to physically disassemble the laptop to get at the contact points.
A fingernail file works best (or sandpaper, even a screwdriver). You clean the contacts to shiny, bare metal. Then put the laptop back together.
It's not rocket science, just be careful to put it back the way you took it apart.

What do you mean "some" keys. You didn't accidentally activate the "stickey keys," did you? I did and nearly went nuts until one of the Yahoo answerers told me of stickey keys.

Stickey Keys

Start
Settings
Control Panel
Accessibility Options
(primarily for handicapped persons, causes a 8 sec delay in keystrokes – can be activated if you hold the Shift key down too long.)

First make sure if the actual keys aren't working and its not a virus making the keys not work

would not you keyboard have 2 shift keys on it, because mine does, it probably has airborne dirt and mud or something in it, or attempt unplugging it when you shut down the computer, unplug keyboard, ascertain no pins are lacking from it, and blow on it, plug it back in, then see if that helped (:
