The clothes you wear can deceive the eye as to your true
size, and thus make you look thinner. And vertical (not horizontal) stripes help. That can apply to trousers, skirts, shirts, dresses, blouses etc. On blouses and shirts, use buttons, because they create a vertical line. The same effect can be reproduced with long zippers.

Don’t use clothes that are too colorful, as that will only
attract more eyes on the areas that you really would like to
hide. Chose black or dark blue clothes.

Wearing all one color will accentuate and slim you. But be sure to break up a monotone outfit by using an accent that uses that color and introduces a few others.

Remember that small patterns are best for big people. Avoid clothes with large floral patterns.

If you have a big arm, the worst thing you can do is wear a tight, elastic sleeve because your limb will end up looking like a string of sausages!

A sheer blouse over a matching opaque tank skims the body so your entire silhouette looks slimmer.

When it comes to skirt length, you should choose knee
length skirts. Shorter ones will show off just how fat those
legs are, and longer ones accentuate thick ankles.

Loosen the pockets, and avoid filling them up. Full pockets
add bulk, not the visual effect you are looking for when you
are trying to look thinner.

Always be aware of the position of your body and your
posture. A correct position can make you appear up to three
centimetres taller than you are.

Always remember that oversized clothes don't help camouflage problem areas. Excess fabric only makes you look bulkier. Don't try to hide under your clothes!

I think it would have to do with the way the person is built. I have found that horizontal, rather than vertical stripes work best for me. They always say that black is a slimming color. If you aren't the type to go so dark, try opting for floral design on a shirt. For pants, however, it may take a few "try ons" Don't be discourage if it doesn't work out on your first selection. Just remember that you're the one that's paying for it. You want to look your best and feel as comfortable as possible.

It's the opposite.

Clothes with vertical stripes make a person look thinner than clothes with horizontal stripes.

Actually, horizontal stripes make you look bigger as in wider not skinnier. Vertical stripes possibly make you look skinnier. As for colors, black also makes a person look slimmer and it helps hide flaws.

I always thought that black made you look skinnier. What will truely make you look slimmer is the cut of the clothing. This way you can wear any color and look great!

There are tons of sites to check out by easily searching google or even here on yahoo.

NO. horizontal makes a person look wider. To look skinner and taller try vertical stripes.

no, vertical (up and down) stripes make you look skinnier because it gives the illusion that you are taller. horizontal stripes make you look wider than you are.

Skinnier? Heck no. It makes a person look thicker. Well, most people. If you're already freaking skinny, it won't make a difference. But if you are a little thick in the middle, avoid them!
