A 12step group that teaches a person is powerless and only God can fix them doesn't work well with people who have mental health issues.

I'm sure there are. I too was/am a cutter, and I am now in my 30's. My last time I cut myself was less than 4 months ago. However, take them to a pyschologist. They can help. And if there are groupd for cutters, they would know how to get in touch with them.
Have you spoken to your friends parents about it? And would you?
Also, I have a book at home on cutting, I will get it and put the name, auther here for you. You can get it for your friend or suggest it.
EDIT: Sorry it took so long to get back to you, got a bit busy. The name of the book I purchased and helped me is 'Cutting, understanding and oveercoming self-mutilation' by the author: Steven Levenkron. I purchased it at my local Barnes & Noble book store.

help groups don't work for that, because when she is alone she will continue.
she has to be checked into a facility, where she can be watched.
that is what happened to a girl that once went to the same middle school as me.
some girls found out what she was doing and they told her mom but it made it worse. a teacher we knew helped and with her mom's permision they put her in a psychiatric clinic where she stayed 2 months.
during middle school, we saw the girl around and she seemed ok. i haven't seen her since high school so i can't tell you what happened to her, i do hope she got better and i hope ur friend gets better too.

Yes there are ;; you could find a local counciler ;; Check the yellow paqes or ask around ;; qo to the doctors ;; Rehab ;; Or try & talk to a friend about the reasons you cut yourself ;; if it isn`t you have the person who does try anythinq but killin themselves ;; i had a friend who cut herself after every break up she went throuqh ;; it`s kind of like a cry for help ;; for someone to pay attention t0 them. if they wanted to really hurt themself they`d probably be dead by now ;; it miqht be a phase but try a shrink ;; they may perscribe medication.

You are not the only one that can help. If she's underage, her parents should know what's going on. She needs professional help either way. I don't know of any support groups for cutting, but there may be some. You could check your local paper...sometimes they have listings for support groups. Please don't think that you her one and only hope. That's putting way too pressure on yourself. Encourage her to get professional help.

Your friend might be having some mental illness. It likely that she need help. Maybe you can help her to by discussing possibly getting her diagnosis and getting the proper help for her. Good luck and continue to support your friend.
